Essential Leadership Skills


Leadership is all about evolving and growing oneself to new learning.  As this happens, we become more considerate, compassionate and tolerant towards other. All those activities which are meant to improve the performance of the team is known as  Team building activitiesThe role of leader is, to turn obstacles into opportunity, resolve conflict with employees and strengthen their relationship with management.  One of the best ways to lead is by example – pitching in where needed, lending a helping hand, and making sure that the work you do is clearly understood by your team. Face-lifting yourselves is not exactly demanded by top management, rather expend your energies in upliftment of your employees. You can do this by nurturing and honing skills within you, and by following these points.

Inculcate Interpersonal Skills- Leaders should try to excel in the field of communication.

If they don’t have excellent interpersonal skills, then it will create blockage and prevent their growth as a leader. Do you desire perfect work from your subordinate? If your answer is yes, then possess and harness the skills and key leadership qualities.

Risk Taking Appetite- A leader needs to have risk taking appetite without ignoring ethics. Holding on yourself will continually create a fear and impede your position. You need to deliver in a 24×7 environment; hence it should become part of your nature.

Train your employees- The leaders are developed by continuous grooming through training (both on the job and off the job). A continuous training and mentoring through workshops will hone the skills of your subordinates.

Instill Holistic Management Skills among employees- Leaders should foster focus, precision, strategic skills among employees. They should follow age old adage of Lead by Example. Make sure the work you do is transparent and easily understable by your employees.

Delegation- The major lacuna that today’s world faces is, hoarding of knowledge. Understand the delegation is necessary. A great leader needs to be able to delegate effectively. Overburdening yourselves will not be beneficial to anyone. Withholding your work to yourselves will not empower you. A disorganized leader isn’t leading; he’s chasing his own tail. Disorganization breeds nothing but more disorganization. If you’re frazzled and messy, your team will be too. When you’re organized you’ll be much more productive and so will everyone else.Moreover, ownership creates a sense of responsibility among your employees. They can feel the onus and will try to deliver you in best possible manner.

Listening Abilities- On the playing field that has been leveled by technological innovations and other things, remember what matters most is your listening skills. You can keep the people motivated by listening to their problems and resolving them efficiently. The opportunity to listen others empowers you to do the things differently.

Understand and Develop Management programmes- Initiate and develop management programmes within your organization. Execute innovative and fresh ideas within your organization. These ideas drive to positive business results. These programmes act as consummate visionary with great focus on productivity and quality.

Thus, a good leader must be a follower, worker and doer.
